Public Health Update for Schools

Marin County continues to move in a positive trend and we anticipate moving to Mitigation Level B on Monday, October 11th. As a district, we will soon adjust our plan accordingly.

We are also excited to announce that we are preparing to offer vaccines for students ages 5-11 years of age.  These events require a large number of volunteers.  Please click the link below to sign up and help:

Professional Development for Teachers

Differentiating our Writing Instruction to Meet Every Student's Needs

How do we ensure every Vallecito writer gets just what they need?

Writer's Workshop differentiates writing instruction naturally.  Through the use of targeted mini-lessons, small groups, and one-to-one conferring, students have been learning about the writing process with a focus on Narrative writing.

At today's professional development session, teachers spent time analyzing student Narrative writing samples to inform instruction and then began planning for Informational writing as our next genre of study.

Easy parent tip...Ask your child to tell you about their Narrative writing essay and "The Big Thing That Happened"  in their personal story.

  • Integrity
  • Using Mindfulness Practices to Regulate Emotions

October Identity Month: LGBTQ History Month

Supporting Social-Emotional Learning through

an LGBTQ Inclusive Lens

Our librarians, counselors, and teachers will be reading stories and engaging with the goal of bringing much-needed attention to:

  • Gender stereotypes
  • Self-awareness - Who am I? How am I?
  • Identity
  • Intersectionality, or put another way, the complex way that the many aspects of our identities overlap, including our race, gender, identity, class, and more.
  • Understanding ones own emotions
  • Understanding the decisions we make affect others

Here are the book titles that our elementary librarians are highlighting for the month of October for both LGBTQ+ History and our life skill for self-awareness. Teachers will also access this wonderful calendar highlighting important people in LGBTQ History.
