“Return to School” Rapid Antigen Tests

Your child received a rapid antigen test box in their backpack on Wednesday. Each box contains two tests.  One of the tests in the box must be used on January 2nd, the day before students and staff return to school following the winter holiday.  The other test should be used for testing students or staff who have COVID‐19 symptoms, whenever this may occur.

Follow these simple steps below:

1. Watch the iHealth Test Kit Instructional Video using the code on the front of the envelope before you use the test and read the instructions about how to report the results.

2. January 2nd - Students take one of the tests.

3. Report the Results Through Primary Health

Please register and report results through Primary Health, whether they are positive or negative using the following link:

  • When POSITIVE: isolate the positive individual, notify the school immediately and follow the direction of Public Health and your health care provider.

  • When NEGATIVE: student or staff can return to school if symptom‐free and fever‐free for 24 hours without medication.

Please Note: We have been advised by Marin Public Health officials that they expect some positive results. Our Schools and Marin County Public Health are ready to support any families or staff members with positive results.

If you are unable to report the results online,

call (650) 275‐5419.

New State Guidance on Travel

This week, the California Department of Public Health announced a new set of COVID-19 restrictions for travel- related testing.

  • TRAVEL: Effective immediately, all travelers arriving in California should be tested for COVID-19 three to five days after arrival, regardless of vaccination status. This aligns with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and applies to visitors from other states or countries AND California residents who are returning home from outside the state.  Read the full advisory.

Of course, the Decision Trees are still in effect should your student develop symptoms or discover they have been exposed to COVID. Please notify the school immediately, even over the holiday break, and see your healthcare provider.

Here is a resource listing the FDA-approved rapid/home/antigen tests that are available for purchase at most drug stores or online.

COVID Vax Card Info

Once your student receives his/her second COVID vaccination, please send Ms. Denise a copy of your student's vaccination card either by taking a picture of it and emailing it to or by making a photocopy and bringing it to the front office at Vallecito. We will need to keep a record of the COVID vaccination just as we keep a record of the other required vaccinations for K-12 schools. Thank you for providing this information right away, making our job so much easier.

Please note, there is currently no vaccine mandate for our students Sharing your child's vaccination status with the office is optional at this time.

Adopt a Family Update

Thank you to our Vallecito Community for your GENEROUS support of the Adopt A Family program! We quickly filled the wish lists for four families, which is sure to brighten their holiday season. We also collected just over $500 in gift cards to support our Val community. This outpouring of kindness and support is truly heartwarming. Thank you and happy holidays!

A HUGE "Thank You" to Lindy, Martha, and Sarah for organizing this event.

Lunch Clubs

Do you like to hang out with kids and build with legos or dig in the garden?

Do you have an idea for your own Lunch Club?

Lunch Clubs provide students with an alternative to the playground during recess.  We are planning to reinstate our Lunch Clubs in the new year and we need your help! Please email Ms. Foehr if you are available one day a week from 12:00-12:45 to help monitor students for one of these clubs.

Garden Club will begin on Thursday, January 14th, with our new Garden Teacher, Sandy Parry.

I Spy a Very Familiar, Very Beloved

Sub this Week...

Our very own Mr. Endo took a break from Harvard Graduate School this week to stop by Vallecito and say hello.  He even picked up a sub job for us!  The kids went crazy when they saw him. So cool.

Free Digital Library Access and Books for All California Students

As part of State Superintendent Tony Thurmond's literacy initiative, the California Department of Education (CDE) has partnered with Renaissance Learning to ensure that every California student can access thousands of reading resources from December 1, 2021 to January 31, 2022. The myON digital library and news articles in multiple languages can be accessed for free by all pre-K to grade twelve students in California. All books downloaded during the two months are able to be retained and accessed afterward. Schools are asked to provide the access code to unlock these free resources for students and families.

Please use the Family Letter templates to share this news, login code, and message with families in your school communities:
