Health and Safety at Vallecito

It has been quite a week.  As expected, we are experiencing an increase in the number of people in our school community who have tested positive.  Per Public Health guidelines, we will continue to notify parents or guardians of possible exposures, and our office staff is working overtime to stay on top of it all.  A huge thank you to Kristen Geller, our Health Specialist, and Ms. Denise for all their efforts. They have been amazing.

I know we are going to see more of this over the next few weeks.  Although apparently less severe, the variant is highly contagious and we can expect an increase in positive cases. We are equipped to handle this and I am optimistic we are in the home stretch. Even though we are seeing an increase in cases, the numbers have "uncoupled" from severe illness/hospitalization.  That is really good news - for a change.

If you would like more information please watch the Public Health Community Webinar from yesterday linked below.   If your child is not vaccinated yet, I urge you to do so.  If you have not been boosted, please make an appointment today.

Take care of yourselves and don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. We've got this, Vallecito.

32 Point Covid Safety Plan (updated 1.6.22)

COVID Vax Card Info

Once your student receives his/her second COVID vaccination, please send Ms. Denise a copy of your student's vaccination card either by taking a picture of it and emailing it to dtosti@millercreeksd.org or by making a photocopy and bringing it to the front office at Vallecito. We will need to keep a record of the COVID vaccination just as we keep a record of the other required vaccinations for K-12 schools. Thank you for providing this information right away and making our job so much easier.

Please note, there is currently no vaccine mandate for our students Sharing your child's vaccination status with the office is optional at this time.

January Life Skill: Kindness

Identity Month: Celebrating Abilities

For the month of January we will focus on Kindness and Celebrating Abilities.  Students will read from the collection of books listed below and engage in Kindness Challenge activities. Stay on the lookout for the DEI displays in front of school highlighting remarkable people with different abilities.  We had to reschedule our assemblies supporting this theme, but will find a new time when Public Health guidance allows for gatherings.

Here are the books we will be sharing with kids this month.  Enjoy!

Mr. Nettell Starts this Week

Our beloved Mr. Nettell and his Cooperative Adventure teamwork challenges will be back on campus for the next several weeks.  Students will engage in different challenges that support the development of cooperation, communication, and resilience.  It is also an absolute blast!  Each class will work with Mr. Nettell for half a day.

Lunch Clubs

Do you like to hang out with kids and build with legos or dig in the garden?

Do you have an idea for your own Lunch Club?

Lunch Clubs provide students with an alternative to the playground during recess.  We are planning to reinstate our Lunch Clubs in the new year and we need your help! Please email Ms. Foehr if you are available one day a week from 12:00-12:45 to help monitor students for one of these clubs.

Garden Club will begin on Thursday, January 14th, with our new Garden Teacher, Sandy Parry.
