Response to Uvalde Shootings & Resources

As a principal and a parent to three children, the events of this week bring me to my knees.  The horror of repeated gun violence might tempt us to withdraw,  but we can't ever become numb to the continued, senseless, loss of life...

We need to build a beloved community where we are. We need a shift in culture and consciousness, block by block, heart to heart. I believe we can make every school, every house, every workplace, and every community a place where we leave no one outside our circle of care, where we help one another be brave and whole. We can become the medicine that stops violence at its root. We can do this by putting love into practice.

Don't choke down your rage. Or let it fester. Be with people who can honor this rage and process it in safe containers. Your rage carries information – what is it telling you? You have something to fight for. You have a role to play, and no role is too small.

What courageous step are you ready to take? Do not swallow the lie that nothing can be done. You have a sphere of influence. Every choice we make – every word, every action, every encounter – co-creates culture and shapes what happens next. Will you use your voice, your art, your story, your money, your power, your heart?

Our Golden Bell Honorees

Jolee Woolard and Denise Tosti

Ms. Woolard and Ms. Denise were celebrated at the Marin County Golden Bell awards ceremony this week for excellence in education.  And leave it to our one and only Ms. Denise to take the opportunity to grab the mic and crack a joke!

End of the Year Dance Party

End of the Year Dance Party

Friday, June 3, 6 pm to 8pm

Come celebrate with us at the Year End Dance Party! This is a family friendly event- everyone is welcome. Students must be accompanied by an adult. Join us outdoors in the Vallecito Quad from 6 to 8 pm. We’ll have music for all ages, a VERY special guest appearance, pizza for sale, and more fun surprises you won't want to miss!

Think you might want pizza at the party? Help us estimate how much to purchase by signing up for a slice here. NO COMMITMENT NECESSARY- for estimation purposes only.

And if you want to help get the party started (or shut down) we’re looking for some volunteers. Sign up here to help set up or clean up and sign up here to help sell pizza and drinks.

Our annual Vallecito Field Day is TUESDAY, JUNE 7TH.

Field Day is a fun-filled event that gives our kids a way to celebrate the school year coming to an end by spending some time being active outside.

All volunteers must be fully vaccinated and boosted and no experience is necessary.

The kids can't wait for Field Day, but we're still looking for volunteers to help us run the activities. If you want to help out with the Kindergarten field day activities, sign up here to volunteer. If you want to help out with 1st through 5th grade activities, sign up here to volunteer.

Drop Off Lane Duty

Health Update

Please do not send your child to school with any symptom of illness. *

If a member of your household tests positive for COVID-19, please let Ms. Denise know.

Household Exposure: If a member of your household is COVID positive and your student develops a symptom of illness, they should stay home and test for COVID-19 with an antigen test on day 3 after the start of symptoms OR immediately seek PCR testing (for testing resources click here), and consider also testing for flu. Notify the office when your student becomes symptomatic. Once a negative COVID-19 antigen test on day 3 after symptoms or a negative PCR result is received, the student may return to school if also without fever for 24 hours and symptoms have resolved.

This applies to students who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 90 days, except they should only test with an antigen test on day 3 after the start of symptoms and not seek a PCR test.

* Symptoms of illness include: fatigue, body aches, headache, runny nose or congestion, sore throat, chills, fever of 100.4 or more, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, new loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting.

PLEASE DO send your student to school with a water bottle and remind them to drink more water. With the warmer weather, we are seeing students showing signs of dehydration such as headache, which is also a symptom of COVID and could result in them being sent home.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school community healthy and our end-of-year events possible.

Dear Fifth Grade Students and Families -

The time has finally arrived!  We are preparing to celebrate our fifth graders with the end of the year promotion ceremony on June 9th.

Mark your calendars and read on for everything you need to know...

  • June 9, 2022 at 10:00 am
  • Vallecito Gym
  • Limit four attendees per 5th grade student, not including siblings. Please email the office directly if you have questions or need to discuss the family limit.
  • Masks will be required as per Public Health guidelines for indoor gatherings of over 50 people. Please monitor for symptoms and stay home if you feel sick.

There will be a parent photographer on hand to take pictures of the students as they cross the stage.  Pictures will be shared with parents following the ceremony.

Promotion at Vallecito is a very important event as our kids are moving on to another stage in their school careers.  We encourage them to embrace their childhood a little longer rather than grow up too fast. Based on this philosophy, all students are to be dressed neatly and according to the Vallecito dress code:

-No shorts, flip flops, spaghetti strap tops/dresses, heels, or makeup
-Skirts/ dresses are to be finger-tip length or longer.
-No hoodies or baseball caps.

After Party:

Our wonderful Parent Promotion Committee has planned an afternoon of fun and celebration after the ceremony.  Send your student to school with a water bottle, and a comfy change of clothes if they'd like to change after the ceremony. The rest will be taken care of by our graduation committee!

Students should arrive at school at our regular start time. They will be dismissed at 1:50 pm.

Thank you to our fifth-grade teachers - Sarah Lai, Hildie Sims, and Alysha Yamamoto -  and to our parent promotion committee - Elaine Esler, Lanie King, Jamie Foley, Megan O'Brien, and Celine Schein Das for organizing what I'm certain will be a very special day for our students.

Why can't we live in a world without hurt

A world full of peace

When can we find somewhere that we can still feel safe

Somewhere that we can stop being afraid

So hold on to your loved ones

Pray that they come home at night

Protect them with all you love

And whatever you do, don't let go.
